Prairie City council directs architect/contractors to cover EMS/Fire water-line cost increase, denies temporary-heat request

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Prairie City Council took two decisions on cost increases for the EMS/Fire building project.
Council discussed a cost increase tied to water lines and the values used for filling fire truck tanks. Project documents previously described the item as a potential "value added" feature, but the city attorney concluded the change was a design error and that the architect should be responsible. Councilor Phil Holland moved to support the city attorney’s opinion and to have the architect and contractors distribute and cover the cost among themselves; Councilor Derek Ingle seconded. The motion carried on a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting minutes as unanimous.
Separately, the council considered Cost Increase #7, a request to reimburse temporary heat for the building. Councilor Holland moved to deny the request, saying contractors are responsible for bidding and providing suitable heat options; Councilor Joe Disney seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Council directed staff to continue project work while the architect and contractors resolve the allocation of the water-line cost. No dollar amounts for the two cost increases were recorded in the meeting transcript.
