Malone board approves minutes, rosters, bills and appoints town physician; highway superintendent flags aging radios

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Town Board of Malone unanimously approved routine business including minutes from Jan. 14, 2026; accepted December reports including the Justice Court report; approved updated volunteer fire and EMS rosters; adopted journal entries and accepted a Justice Court audit bid; and approved bills totaling $297,357.48.
The board adopted multiple resolutions by 4-0 votes: Resolution 28-2026 (approval of minutes), Resolution 29-2026 (acceptance of reports), Resolution 31-2026 (Malone Volunteer Fire Department roster), Resolution 32-2026 (Malone EMS roster), Resolution 33-2026 (appointing Dr. Glenn Champagne as Town Physician for two years), Resolution 34-2026 and 36-2026 (journal entries), Resolution 35-2026 (accepting a quote for the 2025 Justice Court audit), and Resolution 39-2026 (authorization to pay listed vouchers). The bills included line items across funds and an Airport Capital Project Fund additional expenditure; the meeting minutes record a grand total of $297,357.48.
Highway Superintendent Michael Andrews reported the highway crew plowed 25 of 28 days in January and has been salting and sanding. Andrews told the board that Bearcom tested the department radios and described the fleet as "very antique," which he said is a safety concern. Bearcom has placed an order to upgrade radio systems on four of the town's six trucks; Andrews recommended budgeting for new radio systems when replacing vehicles in the future. He also said the town took ownership of a budgeted 2026 F-250 that replaces two sold vehicles and that county and town staff are monitoring ice levels at the Kimpton Bridge.
During old business the board recorded letters of interest from local residents for a vacancy and said it will interview each applicant in public; applicant Kaitlin Parker thanked the board and town clerk and asked for a timeline for interviews, and Supervisor Maguire said the board would move "as quick as possible." The board entered an executive session at 6:18 p.m. to discuss litigation and exited at 6:30 p.m.; no action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.; the next regular meeting is Feb. 11, 2026.
