The North Stonington Board of Selectmen on June 25 reapproved the purchase of a rescue truck for the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company, approving a bid award to New England Fire and Equipment and Apparatus for $1,435,570.
First Selectman Bob Collison said the reapproval was necessary after the board discovered that a prior meeting had been held on the wrong Zoom link and was therefore an illegal meeting; the board must re-vote to make earlier decisions legitimate. Selectman John Gashon moved to approve the bid award recommendation “as submitted by Chief Steinhart,” and Selectwoman Nicole Porter seconded the motion. The board then voted in favor.
The board referenced Chief Steinhart’s prior presentation explaining why that particular truck and vendor were recommended. Selectmen did not expand on the vendor selection in the June 25 discussion; the motion cited the chief’s submitted recommendation.
The reapproval restores authority for the fire company to move forward with the purchase after the procedural error in the earlier meeting. The board did not add conditions to the award at the June 25 session.
