Good Thunder staff report progress on lead-line inventory and well-site work; council schedules spring cleanup

Public works staff member Eli updated the council on water-system tasks and maintenance, and the council set dates for the town’s spring cleanup.

Eli said the recent inspections tied to meter installations produced some misidentifications of lead or galvanized service lines; the team worked with consultant Polygon to correct those results and submitted a final list for the drinking-water reporting requirement. He said the town will pursue further identification as funding allows and encouraged the council to pursue available lead-line funding quickly because program money may be limited.

As part of the project design, Eli said engineers will drill geotechnical core samples around town (about seven borings) to evaluate subsurface conditions near the treatment plant and potential well sites. He reported the lift-station pump had been repaired and that three of four pumps are running; both generators are checked annually and staff will monitor generator performance after recent storm-related alarms.

On solid-waste services, council members discussed logistics for spring cleanup including dumpster placement, mattress and appliance handling, potential extra charges for items like refrigerators (because of refrigerant handling) and whether to use vouchers or add fees to water bills. The council approved providing two dumpsters on April 25 and scheduled curbside appliance/large-item pickup for October 3. Next steps: engineers will complete geotechnical work as part of the design process; staff will finalize appliance-handling policy and communicate dumpster details to residents.
