Good Thunder council approves routine maintenance purchases, fuel-card switch and schedules special meeting

Good Thunder's city council moved through routine business at its monthly meeting, approving maintenance purchases, a change in fuel-card vendors, and scheduling a closed attorney-client session.

The council approved three maintenance items after a motion and second: a repair/overage tied to a transfer pump (noted as a $99.60 overage), work by Peterson (estimated under $11,000) and pest-control treatment priced at $58.31. A council member made the motion and a second was recorded; the chair called the question and the motion was carried.

The treasurer proposed switching the fire department and municipal vehicles from WEX fuel cards (which the treasurer said cost $32 per card per month) to US Bank Voyager cards, which he said have no monthly fee; the council voted to proceed with the Voyager accounts and cancel the WEX cards after implementation.

Under unfinished business, the council considered paying John for 70.9 hours of interim coverage. A motion to pay him at $30 per hour was made, seconded, and carried after one member registered opposition and John abstained from the vote.

Other items: the council reviewed a proposed $50 annual membership in the Maple River Chamber of Commerce and tabled it for another month; it approved a lease agreement with Pheasants Forever (the chair said the matter had been reviewed by the city attorney); and staff were directed to consult the city attorney about options for removing an abandoned camper that has sat in the street for multiple years.

What comes next: Staff were asked to bring a short menu of possible projects to the representative mentioned earlier in the meeting; the council also set a personnel-related special meeting (attorney-client) for June 22 at 5:30 p.m. to be posted publicly.
