Malone highway superintendent gets OK to buy tractor safety cage, post sand-and-gravel bids

The Town Board of Malone on March 25 approved equipment purchases and procurement steps for the Highway Department after a report from Superintendent of Highways Michael Andrews.

Andrews asked the board for approval to purchase a John Deere tractor cage to protect employees and equipment; the board approved Resolution 88-2026 authorizing the purchase from Badlands for $3,500 or $2,870 depending on the date of sale. Andrews said the cage “would be very beneficial” to protect staff and machinery.

The board also authorized the town clerk to post a sand-and-gravel bid (Resolution 89-2026) to solicit contractors or suppliers, and approved acceptance of eight two-way radios donated by Dana Langdon and Dennis Dailey (Resolution 90-2026). Andrews thanked Langdon and Dailey and said the radios were “very generous and a huge help when it comes to safety.”

Andrews updated the board on recent work: his crew installed three sets of culverts on Junction Road for the 284 project, is installing culverts on Teboville Road, and reported the county resumed bridge work on Houndsville Road. Milling on Junction Road is scheduled to start in late May.

Deputy Supervisor Andrea Stewart moved the tractor-cage motion and Councilor Jason Marlow seconded; the votes were recorded four to zero. The clerk was directed to post the sand-and-gravel bid on the town website, the Telegram and the town bulletin board. The decisions fund routine highway operations and safety improvements; the board did not set additional funding beyond the specified purchase price and bid posting authority.
