The Delaware House on June 16 unanimously passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 2 13, reaffirming a long-standing sisterhood partnership between the state and Taiwan.
Ambassador Yui, invited to the podium with his wife Karen Lowe, thanked the House for the resolution and praised the ties between Delaware and Taiwan. "We're celebrating 250 years of United States inception as a democratic republic," he said, adding that Taiwan and the United States share democratic values and expanding trade and investment ties. He described Taiwan's efforts to modernize its economy and to work with U.S. partners on technology and security.
Sponsor Representative Spiegelman had introduced the resolution by title and Representative Spiegelman and other lawmakers asked the ambassador to address the chamber. Lawmakers greeted the remarks with applause and the House approved the measure by voice vote.
Why it matters: The nonbinding resolution is a formal expression of goodwill and underscores growing state-level engagement with Taiwan on trade and cultural exchange. Ambassador Yui highlighted economic links and encouraged Delaware officials to visit Taiwan to deepen relationships. The House action does not create new policy obligations but signals continued legislative support for the partnership.
The House moved on to other business after the passage; the resolution will be transmitted to the Senate for the official record.
