Chisago City approves ordinance to allow Sunday liquor service beginning at 8 a.m.

Associate Planner Leah Nelson presented a proposed amendment to Municipal Code Chapter 200 to allow Sunday on-sale intoxicating liquor service, including growler sales, beginning at 8:00 a.m., consistent with Minnesota law. The change was requested by local businesses to better accommodate customer demand during sporting events, brunch service and tourism activities.
Garrett Angell, owner of Smitty's Grill & Pub, spoke in favor of the amendment, saying it would provide competitive parity with neighboring communities and better meet customer demand.
After a public hearing was opened and closed with no further speakers, Council member Mark Anderson moved to approve Resolution 26-05-01 adopting the ordinance summary and authorization to publish; Council member Marie Rivers seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The ordinance moves the city’s allowable start time for Sunday on-sale service from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and includes growler sales as described in the proposed code amendment. The council took no additional regulatory action at the meeting.
