Council approves Prairie Estates preliminary plat and rezones portion of parcel to R1

The Long Prairie City Council on June 10 voted to approve a preliminary plat for Prairie Estates (Lots 1 and 2) for Randy Mechels/Mechels Properties LLC and adopted Ordinance No. 26‑06‑10‑02 to rezone a portion of Parcel 36‑0001302 from Agricultural Open (AO) to Residential (R1).
The Planning Commission had reviewed and recommended approval at a May 26 public hearing. The council’s approval of the preliminary plat (Resolution No. 26‑06‑10‑16) is conditional on compliance with city ordinances, required road right‑of‑way and easements as determined by the city engineer, final engineering review and showing existing and proposed utilities. The council also required a title opinion and drainage and utility easements on all lot lines before final platting.
The rezoning ordinance adopts the Planning Commission’s findings and directs the city clerk to update the official zoning map. Council Member Lilah Gripne moved to approve the preliminary plat; Council Member Clint Krueger seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Later the rezoning ordinance was adopted on a unanimous vote after a motion by Mayor Jim Kreemer and a second by Council Member Gripne.
Next steps include final engineering review, satisfaction of conditions and submittal of required documentation before final plat approval and recording.
