Rushford Village reviews Freightliner driveshaft damage; repairs expected under warranty

Rushford Village’s Public Works supervisor told the council on March 3 that the city’s 2022 Freightliner showed a serious driveshaft problem after heavy snow operations and that the vehicle is at a service shop awaiting parts analysis.
Darrin Dessner said the truck developed a noise while pushing snow banks. Brown’s Tire inspected the truck and found the driveshaft "almost falling off," and later Syverson towed the Freightliner to its shop for further diagnosis. Syverson has sent the damaged parts to the parts manufacturer to determine whether the failure resulted from faulty parts or prior repair work; Syverson indicated the repairs should be covered by warranty, but the timeline depends on parts availability.
Dessner said Pettit and Carson Johnson used the city F-550 to clear roads after the late-February snowfall and that if the Freightliner is not back before the next storm, the city will rely on the F-550 and the grader to maintain roads. "It appears the front end is out again," Dessner said of the truck during the report, noting the city expects to hear back within a couple of weeks about the warranty determination.
The council received the update; no formal vote was required.
