Downing said he has heard frustrations about FEMA’s response to the 2022 flood and told commissioners he now has greater access to FEMA and can help obtain more information when response is inadequate. Commissioners and the congressman discussed the idea of holding a multicounty round table with FEMA.
The discussion also covered federal funding and the potential impact of a federal government shutdown; Downing noted there may be federal funding available for housing planning. Commissioners raised county concerns about economic development and housing for local residents, and discussed Aging in Place and the AG summit during the meeting. No formal action or new funding commitments were recorded in the minutes.
