Council approves dump truck repairs and street overlay, and authorizes mosquito spraying after split vote

At the July 9 meeting councilmembers addressed several public‑works items. Staff reported the town’s sickle/ditch mower is broken, has had about $1,500 in prior repairs and was originally purchased used for $500. Staff recommended against additional repairs because these mowers are harder to find used; a John Deere replacement quote of $4,800 was cited. Council directed employees to research alternatives and tabled a decision until August.
The council approved repairs for a dump truck using a quote from Nelson Fabrication (noted as roughly one-quarter of a competing Interstate Power Systems estimate). Council member Juel moved to accept Nelson Fabrication’s quote; Council member Stahl seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
For street work, the council approved Manatt’s quote of $41,832.50 to perform patching and an asphalt overlay on Main Street near the recreation center, using funds from the $50,000 budgeted for street repairs. Councilmember Gibbs moved to hire Manatt’s; Council member Stahl seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On a separate public‑health measure, council authorized mosquito spraying and scheduled a second spraying before Aug. 3. The motion to spray passed 3–1 after Council member Stahl voted nay.
