Melbourne readies vendor sites for RAGBRAI, discusses rental-policy draft and reports citywide cleanup totals

Melbourne — The council received updates on RAGBRAI planning, a rental-policy draft and the recent citywide cleanup during its May 14 meeting.
Gary Fricke said the RAGBRAI committee has tentatively mapped vendor sites and had secured approximately 12 vendors; committee members are also discussing a community fundraiser with local churches and will schedule a public meeting when more details are available.
On housing oversight, council members reviewed a draft rental policy. The draft did not elicit changes at this meeting and will be distributed to all landlords and to the fire chief before it comes back for a vote; Attorney Sharon Greer asked to be sent another copy for review.
Clerk Mary Pothast reported the city hauled 7.88 tons to the landfill at a cost of $453.40, excluding tires, appliances and metal; the State Center RAGBRAI committee will pick up bikes for use as décor.
