Council reviews sewer-tile break and repair options; $31,691 CD available to pay for work

Melbourne — During other old-business reports on May 14, the council reviewed options to repair a broken sewer tile line on Butler and discussed funding and next steps.
Gary Fricke told the council about the broken tile, a Needham Excavating quote to repair 265 feet or to replace the entire 685-foot run, and the possible need to remove a tree to avoid further breakage. Fricke said changing the line size from 6 inches to 8 inches "requires an engineer as it changes the flow." He reported that Visu Sewer will televise a hold on 2nd Avenue near Jennings while crews are working on CIP blocks.
City Clerk Mary Pothast noted the city has a certificate of deposit for $31,691 that can be used toward the work. Council members said they will be kept informed of updates and an engineer will be contacted to advise on any upsizing that would alter hydraulic flow.
