Mendota Heights Natural Resources Commission appoints new member, elects officers and updates committees

The Mendota Heights Natural Resources Commission on Feb. 11 recorded that Mr. Charlie Weier was appointed to the commission by the City Council, introduced himself to the body and took his place among commissioners.
During the meeting commissioners conducted officer elections for 2026. Commissioner Sheets moved and Commissioner Weier seconded the appointment of Will Stein as Chair; the motion passed 6-0. Chair Knosalla then moved and Commissioner Sheets seconded the appointment of Mika Thuening as Vice Chair; that motion also passed 6-0.
The commission addressed committee assignments tied to its five work-plan goals. Staff reminded commissioners that committees are limited to three voting members to comply with open-meeting laws (student commissioners may be added as non-voting or to expand membership). The commission moved to modify committee rosters as discussed; Commissioner Weier moved the modification and Commissioner Sheets seconded, and the motion passed 6-0. The updated committee assignments cover: Goal 1 – Ordinance and Policy; Goal 2 – Education and Outreach; Goal 3 – Urban Forestry and Restoration; Goal 4 – Strategic Planning; and Goal 5 – Sustainability. Student commissioners Alia Alizadeh and Annie Bisanz will participate in Education and Outreach activities and assist with social media.
The commission also approved minutes from its Dec. 10, 2025 meeting and its Jan. 14, 2026 work session earlier in the agenda; both motions passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
