Mendota Heights outlines Earth and Arbor Week events April 20–25; city budgeted $1,000

Natural Resources Manager Krista Spreiter presented the schedule for Mendota Heights’ Earth and Arbor Week during the commission’s Feb. 11 meeting, saying the week of events will run Monday, April 20 through Saturday, April 25, 2026, and that the total cost to the city is $1,000.
Events will include a kick-off scavenger event (“Find the Frog”) on Monday that hides a character named Lily in public areas visible from trails or manicured spaces; participants may submit photos and riddle answers by email or Facebook message and entrants will be entered to win an Earth Week basket. Tuesday evening will feature Yoga in the Park (for ages 18 and older; registration required) led by an instructor from Green Lotus Yoga. On Thursday the Free Book Buggie will be parked at City Hall ahead of a movie night showing WALL-E at City Council Chambers.
On Friday there will be a Raptor and Eagle Show presented by the University of Minnesota Raptor Center, including a Bald Eagle, with the program scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Mendota Heights Park. Also on Friday, residents can pick up free clean-up supplies at City Hall from 7:00–11:30 a.m. and at the Par 3 Clubhouse from 1:00–4:00 p.m. The week concludes Saturday with a kids’ garage sale (gently used children’s clothes) at the Veterans Memorial Center in Inver Grove Heights from 10 a.m. to noon.
Commissioners asked about suggested clean-up sites; Spreiter suggested using social media to coordinate volunteers and mentioned trails in Valley Park, the trail under Highway 62, and roadways near storm drains as possible areas. Spreiter also said residents who cannot pick up supplies on the designated dates may contact her to arrange alternatives.
The Commission discussed event logistics and outreach; student commissioners are assisting with social media promotion. Registration details, times and locations will be posted on the City’s website and social media channels.
