Melanie Umble, representing Shomo Madsen Umble Insurance, spoke to the Prairie City Council on March 12 about projected insurance costs and coverage for the coming year and compared $2,500 and $5,000 deductible options. Umble also described an insurance dividend available to the city.
City Administrator Jerry Moore told council that additional information will be provided at a special council meeting on April 2 so council can take action after reviewing further details. No changes or votes were taken at the March 12 meeting on insurance coverage; staff will return with supplemental materials for the April meeting.
Why it matters: Insurance choices (deductible levels and dividend application) affect the city’s risk exposure and budget planning for the upcoming fiscal year, and the council asked for more data before choosing among options.
