Residents urge action on Allied Junk Yard and report collapsed catch basin in public comments

Several Southampton Township residents used the public-comment period on May 15 to press the Committee over longstanding neighborhood problems tied to a local junkyard and stormwater infrastructure.
Residents from New Road, Robbins Way and Falcon Drive described persistent truck traffic, speeding, noise and environmental concerns related to the Allied Junk Yard. They asked the Committee for an update on the property’s DEP permit and the State Fire Marshal inspection, and requested action to reduce a large tire pile they said is attracting mosquitoes. Residents also suggested the Township consider eminent domain to resolve the situation and said Committee members were welcome to visit affected properties to observe the impacts.
Ron Rossell (1 Finchley Court) used the comment period to thank organizers of the Arts in the Village event. Larry and Nancy Kolankiewicz (11 Robbins) thanked Public Works for brush cleanup in their development.
Bill Kelly of Floyd Lane presented the Committee with a diagram of a collapsed catch basin and an obstructed pipe that he said channels stormwater through his and neighboring properties. Kelly said the basin has collapsed and accumulated debris prevents proper drainage; he reported having cleared a clogged pipe in the past, submitted an invoice for reimbursement and requested the Township continue ongoing maintenance of basins and pipes. Larry Kolankiewicz supported Kelly’s request.
The Committee did not record a decision on these public-comment requests at the meeting; the issues were raised for the Committee’s consideration and possible follow-up by Township staff.
