Molly Hart told the Eldridge City Council on April 6 that the gravel alley behind her home at 418 West Bavenport Street has persistent water problems and that drivers frequently cut across private property, damaging a grapevine and settling the driveway.
"My name is Molly Hart, and this is my husband, Phil...we would like to come up with a solution to the water problems and also to the driving on our property so we can fix that," Hart said during the public comment period. She said the alley varies from 10 to 16 feet wide, is gravel and has not been well maintained.
Chair acknowledged the concerns and said staff would speak with public works to evaluate options, including possible paving or other solutions. "We will talk to city staff and see what they think," the Chair said.
Hart said she and her husband were willing to make repairs such as mudjacking the driveway but asked the council to consider longer-term fixes to stop repeated damage and standing water. Council members thanked the Harts for attending and said staff would follow up.
Next step: City staff to inspect the alley and report recommendations to the council for possible remediation.
