Fairfax — The City Council voted to form a downtown revitalization committee to craft concept drawings and a collaborative plan aimed at sparking private investment and improving downtown pedestrian and commercial activity.
Councilor Chris laid out the idea: a small committee of property owners, library board representatives, developers and residents would meet to generate concepts for the downtown core, including potential infill, streetscape and parking improvements. Chris said the committee’s work would be used to apply for programs such as Main Street or other funding and to inform zoning changes as appropriate. He noted that property owners (including a local bank) and library representatives had already expressed interest in participating.
Council discussed whether to also allocate $10,000 from the community and economic development budget to produce professional concept drawings; councilors agreed the committee should be formed now and the budget request should be brought back for separate consideration.
