The City Council adopted two ordinances and approved publication of their summaries during Monday’s meeting.
S4 explained that Ordinance No. 380, a second-reading ordinance vacating Tower Street, had already been approved in resolution form earlier but required an ordinance under the charter; council voted to adopt Ordinance 380 and approved the summary for publication, which S4 said would make the ordinance effective upon publication.
Council also adopted Ordinance No. 381, an amendment to the city’s zoning code that revises architectural standards. S4 told council the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended permitting both horizontal and vertical steel panels on industrial and commercial buildings, allowing concealed or non-concealed fasteners on commercial/industrial roofs and siding, and requiring concealed fasteners for metal roofs and siding in residential districts. The ordinance becomes effective when the summary is published.
A separate zoning amendment (Ordinance 382) proposing a definition for "contractor operations" and a change to sign-size rules to allow signage tied to a percent of building face (25%) received questions from council members asking for a clearer definition of "contractor" (including whether state licensing or registration should be required). Council moved to table Ordinance 382 for further work by staff and planning and zoning.
