Douglasville honors Citizens Academy graduates after 10-week civic training

Deputy City Manager Chelsea Jackson presented the spring 2026 graduating class of the "Dose of Douglasville" Citizens Academy at the June 1 council meeting, describing the program as a 10-week initiative that introduces residents to city operations and staff.
Jackson said the academy started in 2017, later expanded to two sessions a year, and this spring’s class included 15 participants who have now joined more than 200 alumni. "If I can just change one person's mind about local government, about city services, then I think Citizens Academy has done its job," Jackson said, summarizing the program’s community-engagement goal.
Graduate Kata (Kata/Krada) Kendrick told the council the program provided valuable behind-the-scenes exposure to departments including finance, parks and recreation, economic development and public safety, and said she will leave the program more prepared to be an informed neighborhood leader.
City Manager Marcia Frasier and council members joined Jackson in presenting certificates; a reception was announced to follow in the Douglasville Conference Center ballroom.
