Douglasville previews summer lineup: World Cup watch parties, Wine Down concerts and July 4 parade

The City of Douglasville's podcast relaunch highlighted a busy summer calendar of free and family-friendly events, including World Cup watch parties on the Douglasville Town Green, the Wine Down concert series and the city's Independence Day parade and festival.

Emily Lightner of the Cultural Arts Council said the town will host World Cup watch parties tied to matches played in Atlanta, with dates cited on the episode as Jan. 15, 18 and 21 at 12:00 p.m., and additional watch parties scheduled in July; she said more details will appear on a later podcast and on the city's event calendar. "We're going to have several watch parties for those games that are going to be done in Atlanta," she said.

Lightner also confirmed that Wine Down returns, running every Wednesday in June and the first Wednesday in July, with a DJ at 6:00 p.m. and live music at 7:00 p.m. and no fencing or tickets: attendees may bring chairs and food. The hosts reminded listeners to arrive early for parking; downtown restaurants and a parking deck are recommended options.

The podcast announced the annual Independence Day parade will run Saturday, July 4 at 10:00 a.m. downtown, ending at the Town Green where a parks-hosted festival will run until about 1:00 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from West Pines and are "viewable from the surrounding areas around West Pines," the hosts said, and may not be clearly visible from the Town Green.

Organizers asked prospective parade participants to register at douglasvillega.gov/parade and directed listeners to douglasvillega.gov/events and douglasvillecalendar.com for complete listings of parks and police events.

The hosts cautioned that some dates and details were offered on the episode as early announcements and encouraged listeners to check the official city calendar for confirmed schedules and any changes.
