Council approves Lincoln Avenue sewer extension bid after staff briefing

The Gaylord City Council approved a motion on Feb. 25 to proceed with a sewer-line extension on Lincoln Avenue and to accept the staff-recommended bid authorization for the project.
Public Works staff described a proposal to extend a sewer line north from a manhole on Lincoln Avenue to provide redundant flow paths and help prevent recurring backups. "Jerby Contracting gave me an estimate of 13,970," Public Works staff said when describing a component estimate for trenching and manhole work. Later in the packet and on the floor, staff asked the council to approve a bid/contract authorization for the full extension and repaving work in the amount of $1,313,970 from GRP Contracting.
Council members asked whether the manhole bottoms at adjacent locations could be reformed so flows turn the desired direction; staff indicated they would discuss including additional manhole reforming in the work and could direct the contractor as needed. After questions and a brief discussion, a motion to approve the bid/contract authorization was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
What’s next Staff will finalize contract documents, ensure the scope includes any agreed manhole work, and proceed with the awarded contractor’s scheduling and mobilization.
