Alton council sets FY27 budget hearing, adopts library pay resolution and approves bills

The Alton City Council on April 14 set a public hearing for the proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget and approved several routine and personnel measures.
Mayor Dan Vande Griend called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and council members Frederes, Jorgensen, Mulder and Plathe were present. Council Member Plathe introduced Resolution 26-08 to set the time and place for a public hearing on the FY2026-2027 budget; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Plathe, Frederes, Jorgensen and Mulder voting aye. Council Member Jorgensen later introduced Resolution 26-09 to set a public hearing for the FY2025-2026 budget amendment; that resolution also passed unanimously.
Council adopted Resolution 26-10 setting salaries and wages for library employees for fiscal year 2025-2026 after Mulder moved the measure and Frederes seconded; the roll-call vote recorded four ayes. The council approved routine consent items including approval of the agenda, minutes from the April 1 meeting, financial reports and the bills as presented.
Staff presented an accounts payable listing totaling $421,135.35 that included vendor charges for utilities, insurance, engineering and capital work; the council accepted the report. Council also approved purchase of a Dell PowerEdge T360 server from Premier Communications following a recommendation from Administrator Dale Oltmans that the vendor quote was reasonable.
The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn at 6:50 p.m.
