Chair and Miss Emily told the Health Advisory Committee that they attended the South Carolina Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference and the HAC received the "Outstanding Contribution to Health" award.
"We were presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Health award for the HAC," the chair said, noting that the committee also received certificates for members. The chair read a committee bio that described the HAC as a volunteer group that reviewed two textbooks (more than 1,200 pages), 40 PowerPoint presentations and 89 ancillary resources while working to align health curriculum with state requirements and local needs.
Members discussed options for publicly recognizing the work. Several suggested bringing the award and a brief video to the district academic committee and potentially asking for an announcement at the full school board meeting. The chair said HAC member McKenzie would present the award at the academic committee meeting and that an announcement could be considered at the board's Dec. 9 meeting.
Committee members praised the work and recommended that communications or the superintendent consider a formal recognition or announcement so the public knows about the committee's review efforts.
