The Public Facilities Committee approved a resolution authorizing county staff to execute a first amendment to the intergovernmental agreement for the US 278 corridor bridge project.
Jared (speaker 18) summarized the amendment as a rebranded three-lane eastbound bridge section replacing two existing eastbound spans; it will be striped as two lanes but built wide for three. He told the committee the project is now structured with the county’s funds prioritized first in the funding flow, the State Infrastructure Bank (SIB) funds to follow, and that DOT has committed to contribute up to 30% of cost overruns. Jared said the IGA and project materials list a target construction-date window through the end of 2031.
Committee members praised staff for advancing a long-discussed project and asked clarifying questions about default provisions and attorney-fee language that had been added by SIB counsel. Jared said the county has not yet expended construction funds; existing SIB-attributed dollars are reserved for construction when the project reaches that phase. The resolution passed with no objection from the committee.
The committee’s approval moves the amended agreement forward so the county administrator and attorney can finalize execution; staff noted additional approvals from SIB and bond-review processes were complete or underway in the project backup.
