Council sets July 14 public hearing on proposed rental code after staff identifies 214 probable rental addresses

The Eldora City Council approved a resolution to set a public hearing on proposed rental-code amendments (chapter 148) for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Staff said an accounting-system query identified approximately 214 addresses that may be rental properties and that the city will mail notices and post the draft code on its website. Residents and landlords will have the opportunity to review the proposed code and submit written comments if they cannot attend the hearing.
A council member moved to adopt Resolution O6263686 establishing the hearing date; the motion was seconded and carried in a roll call. Staff said the code will be available for review through the end of June and early July to allow stakeholders time to prepare testimony.
Council members also noted the city will publish notice in the paper and that citizens can petition for a special election if they object to an appointment process for a vacant council seat, per normal statutory options.
The hearing will be an opportunity for landlords and tenants to provide feedback on proposed rental standards and registration requirements; staff asked residents to watch the posted draft and submit written comments if needed.
