Ty presented proposed compensation changes for seasonal aquatic center positions, explaining they would realign guest-services positions and manager grades to account for recent minimum-wage increases and staffing needs. He said the proposal would move guest services from steps 3–6 down to steps 2–4 and move two manager positions from grade 6 to grade 5; lifeguards with a WSI certificate "will only be compensated at a WSI level when they're teaching swimming lessons."
Ty also said the council could eliminate the staffed 6 a.m. aqua aerobics position this season because lifeguards were not using that time productively. "We're not gonna do that this year," he said of the early-morning staffed class, noting it would save money.
Councilmember 6 moved to approve the proposed GAAC 2026 wage scale; Councilmember 5 seconded and the motion carried on a voice vote.
After the wage discussion, Ty provided a separate operational update: Well 5 had a pump issue and Sibley Electric narrowed the problem to wiring/casing or the pump; a contractor will pull the pump the following morning to investigate further.
Next steps: approved wage-scale changes take effect as directed and staff will proceed with operational adjustments and follow up on the well inspection.
