A fire department representative outlined the group’s training — including Firefighter 1 and 2, hazardous materials and EMR hours — and said the cohort logged hundreds of training and station hours in the last year. "We're very proud of this group," the department representative said as families pinned new firefighters during the council meeting.
Council members presented a proclamation recognizing Peterson’s career, noting service beginning in 1975, about 15,695 calls answered and more than 17,000 call hours. Peterson, speaking to the council and the gathered families, reflected on recruitment, training and the culture of the department: "If you add training, hard work and commitment together, what you get is culture and success," he said, thanking elected officials, staff and family for their support. The council presented a plaque and took photographs with the honorees.
No formal votes or policy items were tied to the presentation; the item was ceremonial recognition and part of the meeting’s presentations.
