Elementary students demonstrate STEAM projects to board

Students from the elementary STEAM class spoke to the board about projects they are building and why they like the class.
Principal Julie introduced STEAM teacher Mrs. Hayes and invited a group of students — Maggie, Bo, Zaza, Mason and Frankie — to share examples. Students described building a cardboard vending machine, creating a Thanksgiving dinner display, sewing projects and other hands-on work. One student said, "STEAM is a great special ... it's really you can just like basically just she has a lot of things that you can do ... you're also learning at the same time." (Maggie)
The elementary principal said the STEAM program is being built from the ground up, integrates science, technology, engineering, art and math, and is designed to let students be creative and bring ideas home. The principal also noted PTO fundraising that supports classroom needs and reported the elementary raised about $8,000 in a fall fundraiser to support student recognition, field trips and other activities.
