Superintendent outlines staffing priorities: music teacher, psychologist posting and schedule changes under consideration

Superintendent Dr. Clark told the board the district is prioritizing staffing moves for next school year, naming music education, mental-health staffing and scheduling adjustments as central items.

"We do hope to add a music teacher," Dr. Clark said, arguing that music improves academic and social outcomes and noting community interest in restoring more music offerings. He added the district expects some retirements and plans to post a bargaining‑unit psychologist position in January to fill a current vacancy.

To address program needs while controlling costs, Dr. Clark said administrators are exploring an eight‑period day at the high school. The change could expand course offerings and free some teachers to perform supervisory duties such as school‑suspension supervision. He also said intervention specialists are under consideration at both elementary and high-school levels.

Dr. Clark cautioned the board that adding staff would require tradeoffs: "If we add a music teacher ... that music would have to take the place of something else," he said, and noted district leaders are examining five‑year forecasts to limit fiscal impact. The superintendent told the board actual hiring decisions would be made after winter break and that multiple items remain under discussion.

The board later approved several personnel motions by roll call — including retirements, resignations and limited contracts — during the meeting's consent/action block.
