Granite Falls board approves five district policies in unanimous votes

The Granite Falls School Board approved five policy readings at its June 24 meeting, adopting measures on counseling, digital citizenship, the electoral system, board member expenses and leave sharing.

Board members voted to approve the final reading of Policy 2140, the district's Comprehensive School Counseling Program, with a director saying the policy will ensure counselors can spend focused time with students. The board then adopted Policy 2023, Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy; discussion during that item referenced district cell-phone expectations and a gap in formal guidance on artificial intelligence.

The board also approved final reading of Policy 1105 on the district's electoral system; a board member said the item should go to legal counsel for review and, if necessary, be analyzed by a demographer to ensure fair representation. Policy 1731 (Board Member Expenses) was approved as a routine policy reflective of guidance from WASDA, and the board approved a second reading of Policy 5406 (Leave Sharing), with directors noting the program's administrative complexity.
