The Silver Creek Township Planning & Zoning board on Jan. 7 approved a variance requested by Zeigler Custom Homes to allow a deck partially within the building setback from Locke Lake. The motion, made by Member Tom Vanek and seconded by Member Mike Helman, carried 8-0 with Member Mark Egge recorded as abstaining.
The application described a new dwelling that otherwise complies with zoning requirements and a deck that sits partly inside the setback. Chairman Chris Klein told the board that shifting the house toward the road to avoid the setback would interfere with the septic system, and neighbor James Lunde spoke in support of the variance. Minutes record that board members and guests expressed no concerns.
The board approved the variance with no conditions noted in the minutes. No reason for Member Egge’s abstention is recorded. The meeting then proceeded to other new-business items and later adjourned.
