The Board of Selectmen approved a $28,000 appropriation from a capital non-recurring line to fund the town's statemandated revaluation for the 2026 grand list, which includes work to value the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant.
The Assessor (Nicole) told the board Federal Appraisal has supported previous town revaluations and defended valuation outcomes on appeal, and the town requested a bid waiver so Federal Appraisal could be retained without competitive bidding because the firm has specialized expertise valuing nuclear power plants.
Mr. Mark Pomichwick confirmed he has worked with the town before. Selectman Greg asked whether Mr. Pomichwick personally has prior experience on this type of valuation and urged a competitive bid process in general. "I'm not a big fan of bid waivers," Greg said, adding that putting work out to bid is preferable even if a firm appears most qualified. The motion to approve the appropriation and forward required materials to the Board of Finance carried with one dissent noted on the record.
