Resident urges Huxley to shorten fireworks window; administrator reports six related calls

Shirley Crippen of 485 Bella Vista Court used the public-comment portion of the July 9 meeting to ask the Huxley City Council to consider reducing the number of days residents may discharge fireworks from seven days to three.
City Administrator David Haugland later reported that the city received six calls for service during the fireworks discharge period; four of those calls were within the allowed timeframe and two occurred after 10:00 p.m. Mayor Dave Kuhn asked for a work session to discuss the earlier fireworks request.
Council did not take formal action on the fireworks proposal during the July 9 meeting; the record shows the request in public comment and the administrator’s data, and the mayor’s request that the council hold a work session to consider the matter further. No ordinance or change to the municipal code was proposed or voted on at this meeting.
The council may schedule a work session to explore options, including changes to the municipal code or enforcement practices, at a future meeting.
