Huxley City Council approves contracts, backs workforce housing tax-incentive application

Huxley — The Huxley City Council on May 12 approved a package of routine contracts, equipment purchases and a resolution supporting a workforce housing tax-incentive application for a private developer.
The council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 26-050 to retain Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. for construction review and engineering services for the Blue Sky Lakeview Estates Plat 1 subdivision and Resolution No. 26-052 to hire Confluence, Inc. to prepare an updated comprehensive plan for the city. Council also approved Resolution No. 26-051 to purchase a dump body for the Street Department F-550 as part of the FY 2026 Capital Improvements Plan.
On a motion by Councilmember Echer seconded by Councilmember Murphy, the council voted unanimously to approve Resolution No. 26-053, a statement of support for Republic LLC’s workforce housing tax-incentive application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Dylan Kline of the Ames Regional Economic Alliance spoke during public comment in support of the application.
City Administrator David Haugland and City Clerk Barb Barrick recommended the city engage PFM for financial advisory services related to bond sales and related financing; the council approved the engagement by unanimous vote. Council also approved a Business Support Program application for Fabled Popcorn Co. and completed the second reading of Ordinance 560, amending Chapter 69 (No Parking Zones) of the city code.
