APC asks members for 14-day comments on comprehensive plan update; QR-code outreach praised

The Long Beach Advisory Plan Commission on May 18 discussed progress on the comprehensive plan update and asked commissioners to submit priorities and comments to the lead drafter within 14 days so the consultant team can incorporate community input.
Staff said the McKenna memorandum dated April 20 outlines initial revisions to the 2016 goals and objectives and that the consultants are creating an action plan and plan appendix that will include the public survey results. The committee requested that consultants consider mapping the concentration of survey responses by intersection to better understand which neighborhoods engaged most with the outreach.
Town staff relayed comments from consultant Jim McManis praising the high use of the QR code for distributing materials: "kudos kudos to your team ... the QR code was phenomenally ... well received," staff said, underscoring the success of the outreach approach.
Members asked for a short internal timeline: staff requested commissioners email their comments within 14 days so the lead drafter can consolidate feedback and share it with the McKenna team. The group discussed whether to hold a brief follow-up workshop if outstanding questions remain; several members said another one-hour workshop could help finalize language before presenting a revised draft to the town council and building commission.
No public comments were offered during the meeting. The commission confirmed its next meeting is scheduled for June 15, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
