The West Frankfort board approved an affiliation agreement allowing Shauny Community College students to shadow fire-department personnel as part of their paramedic training, confirmed an appointment to the Fire and Police Merit Board and approved a building permit for a roof-mounted solar project.
The council reviewed the affiliation agreement and that "my understanding is that this...allows Shauny College students to...shadow at the fire department," an official said during the meeting, and that the college will assume liability and provide insurance for the students. The council voted to approve the agreement.
Separately, the council moved to officially appoint Ben Woolard to the West Frankfort Fire and Police Merit Board; Woolard has been filling the role since April. The motion to confirm the appointment was approved by recorded affirmative votes.
The board also approved a building permit for a roof-mounted solar project at 808 Frank Street for applicant Isaac Uban after staff confirmed engineered specifications and a registered contractor.
Council members recorded affirmative votes on these routine items; staff were directed to complete paperwork and follow normal contracting and permitting processes.
