Village introduces new planner Mark Torito to lead planning and waterfront work

Speaker 5 asked Torito to address the board; Torito (Speaker 6) said he was most recently deputy commissioner of planning in Yonkers, previously served in the town of Clay outside Syracuse as planning commissioner, and worked in Albany. He told the board he holds an urban planning degree from the University at Buffalo and studied public administration at Syracuse University.
Staff told trustees Torito's office will be co‑located with the building department at 169 Mount Pleasant Avenue. The role will include supporting the village's four land‑use boards, helping formulate an economic development strategy, conducting environmental reviews, developing the village's GIS capability and, over time, reviewing and updating the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan and the comprehensive plan.
Torito said he looks forward to working with staff and the board and will be available for questions and ongoing projects.
What happens next: Torito will begin attending planning and board meetings in his new role; staff and trustees welcomed him and said they will follow up with any questions about immediate projects.
