Staff and trustees introduced a draft to codify the traffic commission’s workflow — adding a secretary role, a standard public-notice radius (proposed 200–250 feet for parking-related matters), and a clearer staff review requirement so technical, legal and cost feasibility is assessed before the commission issues recommendations to the Board.
Traffic commission members and resident commenters said the commission currently provides a lower‑bar public forum and cautioned that converting it to a land‑use–style process could deter residents from raising safety concerns. Commissioners also urged that certain technical review responsibilities stay with staff and that notification might be better issued by the village rather than the requester in some cases.
Trustees agreed to ask staff and counsel to redraft language where needed, prepare a guidance document that would function as an implementation checklist, and continue the discussion in a July work session; they closed the public hearing and scheduled a revised draft for a future work session.
