The Danvers Council on Aging confirmed event plans for its "Forever Young" Senior Prom during the March 19 meeting, announcing the prom will be held April 16 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Danvers High School atrium with no cost to attendees.
Matthew Mitchell, director of senior and social services, said the event is being supported with $3,000 from FDCOA to cover food (Every Little Breeze Caterer), entertainment by the Gem Tones (50s music) and decorations; a photo booth will also be provided. Mitchell estimated about 75 seniors and 25 students will attend.
Elaine Hegan, a board member, suggested the police department lead a talk for seniors about the recent tragedy referenced at the meeting. Mitchell said he and a staff member named Liz would follow up; Bianca Quinones (virtual) volunteered to ask her husband, who works in law enforcement, to speak and offered additional assistance.
The prom is free to attendees; organizers said the sponsorship covers the main event costs. Board members encouraged outreach to local seniors and suggested listing the event on the Patch to broaden notice.
Organizers will confirm final guest counts and speaker arrangements in the weeks before the event.
