Danvers announces election deadlines, roadwork and community events; consent calendar approved

The Town Manager and Town Clerk provided several operational updates at the Select Board meeting on March 17.
Town Manager announcements included an Open Meeting Law and municipal hearings training for board and committee members on April 2, upcoming roadwork for Wenham Street and Wellesley Road to replace a water main beginning next week (weather permitting), and that the Police Department had received grant funding to acquire an additional speed trailer. Staff also noted that Danvers Electric earned the Diamond RP3 designation, placing it among the top public power utilities nationally, and highlighted community initiatives such as the Wall of Heroes project and a Cultural Council survey open through April 10.
Town Clerk updates covered the May 5, 2026 Annual Town Election: most precincts have sufficient candidates but Precinct 4 has one open seat and Precinct 7 has two open seats. Residents have until March 24 at 5:00 p.m. to return or pull nomination papers; ballot placement is scheduled for March 26 at 6:00 p.m., early voting will be held April 25 and vote-by-mail applications are available.
Travis Reardon of DPW Forestry briefed the board on Arbor Day plans: the event was moved to April 17 at 10 a.m. at Smith School due to school vacation, two trees donated by Corliss Brothers and the Danvers Garden Club will be planted and river birch seedlings will be offered for elementary students. The board adopted the Annual Arbor Day Proclamation on a 5-0 vote, with Member Michael Bean reading the proclamation and Member Gardner S. Trask III seconding.
On a motion by Select Board Member Gardner S. Trask III, seconded by Member Michael Bean, the board also voted unanimously to approve the 2026 Consent Calendar, which included items such as the Griffin's Gift road race (June 26).
