Waterford Board of Finance approves $28,000 revaluation appropriation and $9,000 fire budget transfer

The Waterford Board of Finance voted unanimously April 8 to move $28,000 into a revaluation account and to approve a separate $9,000 within-budget transfer for Fire Services.
The $28,000 transfer was made from designated line #10140-57639 (Transfers to CAP & NE Funds) to appropriated line #20501-57639 (CNR Revaluation) to fund Phase I of restricted appraisal/revaluation; the board voted 7-0 to forward the request to the Representative Town Meeting for approval. Board of Finance member Bill Sheehan moved the appropriation and member Joseph Filippetti seconded the motion.
The board also approved an out-of-series transfer of $9,000 within the Fire Services budget to cover protective clothing for three newly hired firefighters. The transfer form showed a $9,000 increase to FF Protective Clothing (account 53111), a $6,000 decrease to Insurance (52372) and a $3,000 decrease to Equipment (54226). Director of Fire Services Chris Haley presented the request; the motion passed 7-0.
During new business, Board of Finance member Michael Rocchetti asked the board to clarify its role in the budget process. Rocchetti and member Robert Tuneski both urged the board to take an active role in accountability when recommending budget decreases for larger departments, including the Board of Education.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved a series of budget hearing minutes and the March 11 regular meeting minutes, with motions by Sheehan and seconds by Filippetti; each procedural motion passed unanimously as recorded in the minutes. The board adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
The appropriation for the revaluation now proceeds to the Representative Town Meeting for its consideration; no other formal votes or actions were announced at the meeting.
