The Bonneville County Commissioners approved change order No. 7 for the Iona Road Widening Project at the May 23, 2026 meeting. Staff said the change order covers multiple items tied to irrigation infrastructure—repairing leaking corrugated metal pipe joints (work on roughly 550 joints), a headwall extension at Ammon Road, and other adjustments requested by property owners. The change order total is $132,117.37 and the contract time increases by five days.
Staff reported the original project was funded as a three-lane roadway with curb, gutter and sidewalk under a strategic initiative grant of $8.1 million awarded several years earlier. With the change order, staff said the contractor (HK) will have a contract value of about $6.46 million; adding roughly $700,000 for construction engineering inspection results in total project-related spending of about $7.1 million to date, which staff said remains within the original grant funding.
Commissioners discussed construction progress and traffic impacts. Staff reported crews poured about 200 yards of concrete during a recent push and had placed the first lift of asphalt from 45th East to Little Sand Creek; they expect the Rocky Mountain Road section to reopen to traffic in mid-July and to wrap up most remaining work by August. Speakers noted pedestrian-safety improvements near Rocky Mountain Middle School, including added crosswalks and wider sidewalks.
A motion to approve the change order was moved and seconded and the board approved it by voice vote. The change order increases short-term project costs and adds five days to the contract schedule; staff said the work was necessary to make the irrigation lines watertight and to address other plan discrepancies discovered during construction.
Staff will continue to oversee remaining construction, coordinate detours and public notifications, and report progress to the board as the project approaches final completion.
