City updates outreach program: Project Safe Neighborhoods reports nearly 200 clients helped

Mellary Benet updated Seaford City Council on Project Safe Neighborhoods outreach June 23, reporting the program has received 120 online referral forms and has transitioned outreach contacts into appointments and services for nearly 200 residents since its April start.
Benet described outreach at grocery stores and community sites, door-hanger distribution and partnerships with Seniors Helping Seniors, Network Connects, Love Inc., La Red and Energize Cedar Hill energy-assistance programs. She said staff set up information tables at Save A Lot, Food Lion and Walmart and that mobile outreach and door-hanger campaigns have helped reach residents who do not attend events.
Council praised the outreach and asked about program goals; Benet said she hopes to reach a large share of residents (she estimated an ambitious aim of 50% outreach coverage over time) and that staff will continue to expand partnerships and host community events.
Council thanked Benet and staff for the work; the presentation did not include request for additional appropriations.
