The Atkins City Council took several formal votes on Aug. 27.
- Law-enforcement agreement: The council approved a resolution authorizing Benton County sheriff's office to provide police protection for FY25 under the county agreement. Council members asked staff to invite the county deputy to brief the council if county-level developments affect the agreement.
- Sledge/sludge removal public hearing: The council set the bid and public-hearing schedule for the sludge-removal (agenda listed as "sledge removal") project; staff said bids will be solicited and the award will coincide with the required public hearing.
- Fire-station owner representative: The council approved designating Fire Chief Dan Ramber as the owner's representative for the construction phase of the fire-station project and set a $5,000 cumulative limit on change orders the representative may approve between council meetings.
- Temporary staffing for records: The council approved an agreement with Express Employment Professionals for flexible temporary office staffing to scan, index and make council documents searchable as a preliminary step toward a full document-management/codification effort. Staff said the temporary placement is intended to be short-term and will be reassessed if the city hires a full-time building-clerk/records worker.
Roll-call votes were recorded for each resolution and carried by the council.
