Council hears nonprofit funding requests, approves Lake Street closure for chamber event

At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Arnolds Park City Council received funding requests from Upper Des Moines Opportunity, CAASA, Dickinson County Historical Society, Historic Arnolds Park Inc., RIDES, Iowa Lakes Corridor and Team Wave and approved a Jan. 24 street closure and transient merchant permit for the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
The Arnolds Park City Council heard a group of funding requests from local nonprofits and community groups and approved a street-closure permit for an upcoming chamber event.
Council accepted a $550 funding request from Upper Des Moines Opportunity and heard a $4,000 FY 2027 funding request from CAASA. Mary Dreier asked the council for $5,000 to support renovations and additions at the Dickinson County Historical Society and Museum. CEO Jon Pausley of Historic Arnolds Park Inc. requested $15,000 and proposed a partnership with the Fire and Police departments for a community night. Cindy Voss requested $5,000 to support the Regional Transit Authority (RIDES). Curt Strouth presented the Iowa Lakes Corridor annual report and requested $4,500 for FY 2027. Chris Goeb (Team Wave) thanked city employees and requested $4,850 for beautification work, including the cemetery wall and the Highway 71/Broadway intersection.
Separately, the council approved a motion to close Lake Street on Jan. 24, 2026, and to grant a transient merchant permit for the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce; that motion passed 5-0 (mover Christensen, second Adams). The minutes record the funding requests as items presented to council; no final appropriations for the nonprofit requests are recorded in the minutes.
