Members noted the firms offered similar services but at different prices; HYA’s proposal was described as notably higher (board members cited figures in the meeting materials). One board member said the district had used Ray and Associates previously and another favored McPherson and Jacobson based on a personal connection to the presenter.
Board members also discussed the district’s interim arrangement for Dr Johnson. "With Dr Johnson being an interim superintendent…we were clear…that this was a 2-year interim position," a board member said while explaining why an open search had been part of prior public messaging.
A motion to table the decision and consult with member Laura before moving forward was made and seconded; the motion passed on a recorded voice vote.
Staff were directed to return with any additional requested information and to clarify expected expenses, advertising, stakeholder engagement steps, and timelines if the board decides to hire a search firm.
