At its June meeting the Town Council of Pike Road took first readings of two annexation petitions and heard a public pitch from a local geospatial-services contractor.
Planning staff (Mr. Rigsby) presented the two first readings: a roughly 5-acre infill parcel at 2678 Pine Acres Road (applicants Scott and Catherine Brown) and a roughly 2.5-acre parcel at 217 Buckhead Drive (applicants John and Nancy Olzewski). Both petitions were presented as first readings and will return at a subsequent meeting for required second readings and final action under state law.
During public comment a resident and owner of a geospatial-services company described his experience in federal and local government mapping and proposed an annual $35,000 package to provide the town with web-based mapping, parcel updates, emergency mapping and drone-enabled services. He suggested moving from static PDF maps to online interactive maps and said his firm could assist with parcel additions after annexations occur. Mayor Graves and councilors encouraged the presenter to schedule follow-up meetings with planning staff (Lisa and Daryl/Rigsby) and other town team members to assess needs and next steps.
What happens next: annexation petitions will appear on a future agenda for second reading and final action; the GIS presenter was asked to meet with planning staff to explore contract options.
